Set To Music is a lovely strong son of Oratorio out of a Group producing Argentinian mare. He has a good imposing temperament and has developed into a very nice horse.
We gave him two starts over 1000m in preparation for the Cape Racing Sales Slipper over 1200m which was run on Met Day. He ran fair races but is looking for further as the jockey said as he has shown he does not have the speed to finish against sprinters. We will start him over further next time out as soon as the opportunity presents itself. He is a promising individual that could develop into a Miler (or possibly further). He does everything asked of him at home and he is a happy fellow.

Saloon Girl is a racy daughter of Buffalo Bill Cody our of a Dynasty mare and her granddam Velvet Green was a Group 1 winner. She is beautifully balance and has a good action covering ground effortlessly.
Saloon Girl ran a very satisfactory debut over 1000m late January although she raced green and needed the experience. She shows a lot of promise, is a lovely filly and will only improve.

Diablo is a son of The United States who, in my opinion, is bound to sire a Group 1 winner soon and has the credentials to be one of SA’s leading sires. Diablo is a very well-balanced nice colt who was my pick of The United States colts at the 2023 BSA National Yearling Sale. He is doing well at home, and I believe could be a classic contender as a 3-yr-old, given the time he needs to fully mature and develop.

Sempre Bella means ‘always beautiful’ in Italian. We saw this handsome son of Querari in the paddock at the pre-training farm and the way he moved caught my attention. He is a very racy individual with a nice fluent and athletic action. Sempre Bella was to be prepared to be auctioned at the upcoming BSA November 2023 2-year-old Sale in Johannesburg. I liked the horse and after refelction decided to make a bid for him before the Sale which, after some tough negotiation, was accepted and I am delighted to have Sempre Bella in our stable. Sempre Bella’s sire Querari is a leading sire of 2-year-olds and has sired 31 stake winners. This mischievous fellow is doing well at home and is gaining confidence in himself which is good. He isn’t too far off having his debut. He will possibly need a few races to gain experience and help him settle down before we see him realise his potential.

American Ultra is a beautiful, well grown and good actioned filly by The United States out of an Irish mare Ultimate Shamrock. She is her dam’s third foal having already produced a 4-time winner. An exciting prospect who should stay 1600m and who caught the eye of many at the recent 2023 Cape Racing Ready To Run sale. We had to dig deep in order to secure her and have another filly in the Syndicate. She is a lovely filly and ran an excellent third on debut having been slow out and found herself at the back of the field early on.

Billy Cool is a lovely horse I purchased for myself and my wife at the Cape Racing Ready To Run Sale in October 2023. Considering the set back with Klein Karoo, I offered to lease Billy Cool to the Syndicate for an initial 12-month period commencing 1st February 2024, to which all the Members happily agreed.
Billy Cool is by William Longsword out of the Trippi mare Polar Trip. He was full of himself and getting naughty, so I decided to have him gelded early January. Billy Cool is showing above average ability and has grown into a lovely 2-yr-old. He had his debut over 1000m mid-February where he was weary of horses around him. I am pleased with how he went, and he will benefit greatly from the experience. A nice horse in the making.

Klein Karoo is a very well-balanced son of Canford Cliffs winner of the Group 1 Irish 2000 Guineas and sire of 22 stake winners to date. He is the first foal of the 3-time stakes winning mare Nastergal, herself a daughter of the Group 1 winning Duke of Marmalade from the prolific family of Inaninstant and American Graffiti. Klein Karoo is a fluent powerful mover and is a very straightforward honest horse. Klein Karoo unfortunately injured his hock and will need to be given sufficient time for it to heal properly. The prognosis for a full recovery is good at this stage, however he is confined to box rest for the next few months until he is ready to resume work (hence the decision to lease Billy Cool).
